Rangers ready bid to sign Paris Saint-Germain attacker Xavi Simons in January

Rangers are readying a bid to sign Dutch wonderkid Xavi Simons from Paris Saint-Germain in January, according to AS.

The Spanish news outlet claims that Giovanni van Bronckhorst wants to sign his fellow Dutchman at the next available opportunity and talks are already underway with agent Mino Raiola.

Simons, 18, is also attracting attention from former club Barcelona, where the attacking midfielder spent nine years before moving to PSG in 2019.

AS adds that the young Netherlands Under-19 international’s deal at PSG expires at the end of this season.

Wow

Van Bronckhorst has barely been at Ibrox for a minute and it seems as though the appointment of the ex-Netherlands and Barcelona player is bearing fruit.

Simons is one of the hottest young prospects on the books at PSG and has already played twice for their senior side.

This season, he’s played five times in the UEFA Youth League, scoring two goals and supplying five assists in the process. One of those goals came against the Manchester City youth team.

Last year, The Guardian named Simons among their list of the 60 best young talents in world football.

It is understood that he was seen as one of the best talents at Barcelona’s La Masia academy before he left for PSG so Rangers fans should be really excited about this one. He was also dubbed a “phenomenon” by Marca.

However, is a move for Simons realistic?

We hope so and we really do pray that van Bronckhorst could have an influence upon us signing the young attacking midfielder.

But Simons comes across as someone who may be out of our league and able to play in a far stronger league than the Scottish Premiership.

We’ll see – but we are excited about this one.
