Neil McCann shares ‘comprehensive’ changes Van Bronckhorst has made at Rangers since arrival

Neil McCann has insisted that there have been “distinct” changes in the way Rangers play under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

The Dutchman earned his third win in as many matches last night, leaving Hibernian with a 1-0 victory thanks to a Kemar Roofe penalty.

McCann shared that the main change is with the full-backs, who are now backing up more to give the wingers more width of their own.

Speaking on BBC Sportscene last night after the win at Hibs, McCann was thrilled by the three points picked up in the end.

“I think there’s going to be changes,” he said. “I don’t think Rangers have hit top form throughout the season.

“I think Rangers will take a bit of time to get used to how Giovanni wants to play, there’s very distinct differences – the way the full-backs operate is totally different.

“I think Gio will want his wide players to be wide players, and the full-backs to be backing up rather than being the first port of call for the width. That will in turn change how they play in midfield.”

Keep it going.

Whatever van Bronckhorst is doing, it is clearly working with the squad.

No matter how they are performing, they are finding a way to win games and that wasn’t happening under Steven Gerrard at the start of the season.

The Bears were drawing far too many games they should have won after losing against Dundee United.

Van Bronckhorst will still be in the process of implementing his style onto the squad, so it won’t look the prettiest as things stand, but it will get better as time goes on and the players get used to his methods.

McCann was said to have been in talks to re-join the Gers as part of the new-look coaching staff, but that didn’t happen in the end [The Sun].
