Charlie Adam: Rangers could get just £6m for misfiring Alfredo Morelos
Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is worth only half of what he was in the summer, according to Charlie Adam.
The Colombian has scored seven goals so far this season, but has come in for criticism for some of his performances in a Rangers shirt.
It follows a summer of yet more transfer speculation, with French side Lille reportedly having a £16.25m bid turned down for Morelos [Daily Mail].
Appearing on the PLZ Football Show, former Bears midfielder Adam was asked whether that was still the striker’s value.
“I think he is miles away from it,” he responded.
“Maybe the hunger is gone. He has to find that burning desire in his belly again, because he is the focal point when he is up there scoring the goals.
“When he is playing well, throwing people around and bullying them, playing off the shoulder, he is a handful.
“Rangers will be hoping he can get back to that sooner rather than later, and a new manager coming in might just have to tell him a few harsh words and ignite something.
Pushed for Morelos’s current price tag, Adam said: “Because he is a goalscorer I think he will get interest. You’re talking £6million, £8million maybe.”
Adam is not the first former Rangers player to comment on Morelos’s poor performances and how his transfer status may be impacted as a result.
Earlier this week, Brian Laudrup wrote in his Daily Mail column: “If Morelos wants to move, he isn’t going to find an attractive new club unless he gets his form sorted out.”
The Colombian has suffered an undeniable drop off this season, particularly with regards to his work rate and attitude.
When Rangers needed him most of all in the Scottish League Cup semi-final against Hibernian last weekend, he put in a sluggish performance and was virtually anonymous for the whole game.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s arrival may inspire an improvement in the striker, but the Dutchman is unlikely to be patient in waiting for his form to turn.
A January exit could look increasingly likely – although Morelos has supposedly been on the verge of leaving Ibrox for the last couple of years – but the Bears have missed out on cashing in on the 25-year-old’s peak value.
In other Rangers news, an official club partner has fired back at Tom English after his latest bitter jibe at the Bears.
