Rangers could bring Jean-Paul van Gastel to Ibrox for free
Rangers could bring Jean-Paul van Gastel to Ibrox for free due to Guangzhou City’s financial problems.
The Sun claim that the Gers could reunite van Gastel with Giovanni van Bronckhorst, despite the deal appearing to collapse last week.
There are reports claiming that Guangzhou and several other Chinese clubs are about to go bust, which would free van Gastel from his contract and allow him to link up with van Bronckhorst [New York Times].
The pair worked together for a long time at Feyenoord, so van Bronckhorst must be pleased with this update.
Van Gastel was van Bronckhorst’s assistant while he was at Feyenoord, so you can see why he would want to bring the Dutchman to Glasgow with him.
The deal had looked to be off, but this new information could lead to the Gers resurrecting the deal and, in the process, make van Bronckhorst a very happy man [Daily Record].
He has already added a few members to his backroom team, but you would think that van Gastel is the one that he really wants.
Therefore, we will be keeping a close eye on Guangzhou’s situation, and if they do go bust in the next days or weeks, you would imagine the Bears will be ready to pounce and bring in van Gastel.
Hopefully, they find a way to get him without Guangzhou going bust because it is never nice to see a football club totally disappear from the face of the earth.
