Barry Ferguson expects seamless transition under GvB at Rangers

Barry Ferguson has suggested that Rangers will go through a seamless transition under new manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

The former Ibrox hero is confident that Gio won’t make any drastic change to the squad he inherited from Steven Gerrard.

Ferguson has also suggested that the current Rangers squad is good enough to win the SPFL title once again.

“For me, it’s the wise appointment because Gio has been at the club before, knows what the club and the city is all about, and has proven himself as a boss at Feyenoord. So it should be a pretty seamless transition,” wrote Ferguson for The Daily Record.

“Gio will want to put his own mark on the team but the players will be set in their ways after three-and-a-half years under the previous regime so it will be about gradual change rather than ripping everything up and starting again. He’s inheriting a very good squad with very good players.”

Spot on

Ferguson is absolutely spot on with his assessment.

Rangers have taken time to appoint their new manager, but it is the right decision.

Gio was a great footballer and a club hero. He will command respect from everyone at the club.

He is a winner, having won trophies as a player and as a manager, and he will bring the winning mentality to the side.

Our former star knows the club and the culture, and he is aware of the pressure that comes with it.

Most importantly, van Bronckhorst is someone who is not obsessed with tactics. He loves to implement an adventurous style of football, and can be very flexible with his approach.

The Dutchman mainly prefers a 4-3-3 system with two attacking midfielders playing behind the central striker. In that way, it’s a continuation from the Gerrard era, and a seamless transition.

Also, he is that type of manager who is happy to work with what he has got. He won’t make drastic changes, rather he will oversee a gradual transition.
