Kenny Miller reacts to Rangers GvB announcement on Sky Sports

Kenny Miller believes that Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be a fantastic appointment for Rangers after the club confirmed the deal on Thursday.

The former Gers man instantly went on to Sky Sports [via the Scottish Sun] and revealed how happy he was to see the former Dutch international back at Ibrox.

He also revealed that success for the Bears would be retaining the league and making some progress in Europe, so no pressure, Gio!

He said: “I think he ticks so many boxes in terms of coming in and carrying on that good work that Steven [Gerrard] has done.

“It’s a good thing to have that stability back; we know who is going to be in charge now and looking forward to a new era.

“He knows the standards; he is a wonderful player who has played and represented some massive football clubs.

“What is success? Retaining the league, winning a cup, progress in Europe because there have been some really good exciting journeys in the Europa League in the last three years.

Van Bronckhorst has to hit the ground running.

So, finally, it is done. The Gers have a new boss, and he knows the club and has a good coaching pedigree.

On paper, it looks to be an incredible appointment for many reasons, and it will be fascinating to see how he does.

However, there will be no easy introduction as the Gers have a cup semi-final on Sunday before they play in the Europa League on Thursday with a chance of getting out of their group.

Then there is the small matter of the title race with Celtic four points behind the Bears at the top of the table.

So the pressure could be relentless, and it is going to be very interesting to see how van Bronckhorst copes with the instant pressure.

The good thing is he knows the club, and if they could retain the title as Miller suggested, that would probably represent a good season.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are still waiting for a work permit for van Bronckhorst.
