View: Joey Veerman is perfect first signing for Giovanni van Bronckhorst if Rangers hire him

Rangers appear to be closing in on appointing their successor to Steven Gerrard this week after his abrupt exit from Ibrox.

Giovanni van Bronkhorst has been the overwhelming favourite all week, with that staying the same after a round of weekend talks.

The Dutchman could be the perfect man for the job, with things already lined up for him to progress the Bears to the next level.

Not only does he know the club inside and out from his playing days, but he also favours the 4-3-3 system that is currently in use.

It’s matters off the pitch that could benefit the club the most.

Rangers have been strongly linked with Heerenveen playmaker Joey Veerman for over a year now, and van Bronckhorst could be the man to get that one over the line.

It was reported back in July that the Gers were hopeful of sealing a £7million deal for the midfielder over the summer [Chris Jack].

If Veerman wasn’t sold on the move over the summer, the appointment of van Bronckhorst would surely tip him over the edge.

With doubts now surrounding the future of the likes of Glen Kamara in midfield, the Dutchman could be perfect.

The 22-year-old was stunning last season, scoring seven goals and adding 10 assists in his 31 league appearances.

Veerman has been slower this season, only being involved in six goals in his 11 appearances, but the promise is there.

Van Bronckhorst is the man to bring him out of the shadow and into the light, and who better to learn off than a Dutch icon?

Every cloud has a silver lining, and after Gerrard’s exit, it looks as though this one is Oranje at Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, the official media partner of the club has shared if the new manager appointment will be made on Tuesday
