Ronald Koeman is one to watch as Rangers near manager appointment

Ronald Koeman is one to watch as Rangers near a new managerial appointment this week, according to the Daily Record.

It is reported that the former Barcelona boss knows Giovanni van Bronckhorst well and could “gazump” him by taking the role.

Ross Wilson knows Koeman very well from their time working together at Southampton, something which could play a huge role in this.

Writing in their live daily blog on Tuesday, it was suggested that it is one to keep a really close eye on at Ibrox.

“Anyone up for another Dutchman?” they wrote.

“He [Koeman] knows Gio van Bronckhorst well but is really in a position to gazump his compatriot.

“You need to factor in the Ross Wilson element – the pair worked together at Southampton and he remains a huge name despite his struggles with Barcelona. Certainly, one to keep an eye on.”

One to watch.

Could we be set for another twist at the 11th hour as we edge closer to an announcement at Ibrox this week?

Wilson has kept his cards very close to his chest during the manager hunt with Van Bronckhorst the only name that has been fed to everyone.

The Dutch route appears to be the one that the Bears are going down, and it could be down to either van Bronckhorst or Koeman now.

Koeman has only just left Barcelona and could be set to come in at Ibrox and look to rebuild his management reputation after he failed at the Nou Camp.

Wilson has done this plenty of times at Watford and Southampton, so the Gers are really in safe hands – let’s hope for an announcement soon.
