Rangers set to make manager decision today after van Bronckhorst talks

Rangers are expected to make a final decision on their manager hunt on Monday after a series of weekend talks, according to the Daily Record.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is still the red-hot favourite to replace Steven Gerrard at Ibrox after he left for Aston Villa.

It is suggested he is ready to hit the ground running ahead of the crunch clash with Hibernian and will scramble to put together a backroom staff.

Van Bronckhorst’s right-hand man, Jean-Paul van Gastel, currently remains in China after their spell together there with Guangzhou.

The 46-year-old could therefore be jetting into the United Kingdom as early as possible to help assist his Dutch counterpart.

Another name mentioned is Arthur Numan, who could return to Ibrox himself to take a similar role to the chief scouting role he currently holds at AZ Alkmaar over in Holland.

Also a close friend of Van Bronckhorst, he could add to the growing list of former Bears stars who return in the next couple of weeks.

Band back together.

Add Jan Wouters to the list of potential staff members too and it looks as though a really impressive group is being put together.

There is a real Oranje cloud surrounding this one, and that suits the Bears perfectly given the way they play.

4-3-3 is a favoured formation throughout Europe, and although van Bronckhorst may make subtle changes, it won’t be too unfamiliar for the squad.

Given the games against Hibernian and Sparta Prague coming up, something needs to happen soon so today would be perfect.

That would leave Van Bronckhorst four real days at Auchenhowie to get things working and put Gerrard well in the past.

Get it done.
