Netherlands enter partial COVID lockdown as Giovanni van Bronckhorst after Rangers talks

Rangers could be hit with an issue in hiring Giovanni van Bronckhorst with the Netherlands entering a partial lockdown, according to the Daily Record.

Van Bronckhorst was in London on Saturday for talks with the Gers as they aim to replace Steven Gerrard before the ex-Feyenoord manager jetted back to the Netherlands.

However, the Daily Record has mooted a potential issue in hiring van Bronckhorst with the Dutch back in a partial lockdown amid rising COVID cases.

It is understood that travel in and out of the country is “largely unaffected” but still, there is a concern in the former Rangers player’s homeland.

No worries

If travel is unaffected then we’re not sure what the Daily Record are getting at here other than to just cause some concern among the Rangers fanbase.

Van Bronckhorst flew into London with no issues on Saturday and flew back home to the Netherlands later in the day with, again, no issues.

COVID cases are rising over there and the partial lockdown will last for at least three weeks with bars, restaurants and essential shops having to shut at 8pm and non-essential shops at 6pm [Guardian].

In other words, it doesn’t sound that much of a lockdown at all.

Van Bronckhorst, if he’s needed in Glasgow, will surely fly there at the first chance possible if the Gers decide to hire him.

And why wouldn’t they?

Gio sounds like the perfect fit for the Scottish Premiership leaders, who’ll want a manager in charge by Sunday when they take on Hibernian in the Scottish League Cup semi-finals at Hampden Park.

It’ll be a great game for van Bronckhorst to show us what we can expect from him.

In other Rangers news, this £2million-rated player could leave for Aston Villa in January.
