Rangers could be set for talks with Frank Lampard

Rangers are in the process of appointing their next manager following the departure of Steven Gerrard who joined Aston Villa this week.

The Gers are set to hold talks with former Ibrox hero Giovanni van Bronckhorst who at the moment looks favourite for the job.

However, the Scottish champions are expected to explore other options, with Frank Lampard being one of them.

According to reports from the Scottish Sun, Lampard is being touted for the job. The Chelsea legend withdrew himself from the race to become the manager of Norwich City this week.

The report claims that the Gers chiefs could be set for talks with the former Chelsea boss in the next 48 hours, that is over the weekend.

Smart appointment

Lampard will be a superb appointment for Rangers.

He did a brilliant job with Derby County that earned him a role at Chelsea in the first place.

The 43-year-old did a commendable job in his first season at the club, taking the Blues to fourth in the table, where he had no transfer budget to work with.

He has got a distinct playing style and has a winning mentality.

Rangers

Most importantly, he has shown that he can work wonders while working on a shoe-string budget, which should interest Rangers at the moment as they are struggling financially.

Lampard has shown great commitment to blooding young talents from the academy. He is one of the main reasons behind the rise of Mason Mount, and there’s every reason to believe that he can transform the Gers academy.

He is out of work at the moment, but his recent experience from the Chelsea managerial job makes his potential appointment a lesser risk than it was for Gerrard.
