David Ornstein: Rangers shortlist ‘massive’, managers could see it as free pass to Champions League

David Ornstein has insisted that the candidate list to take charge of Rangers is “absolutely massive” this week.

There have been suggestions that three candidates are currently in the running at Ibrox with talks set to begin.

Ornstein admitted that managers could be viewing this as a route into the Champions League at the end of this current season if successful.

Speaking live on Sky Sports this evening, Ornstein shared that the available post in Glasgow is a brilliant opportunity.

“That candidates’ list is absolutely massive for Rangers,” he said.

“Many managers will be seeing it as a route into the Champions League, with the qualification in Scotland changing and they’re top of the league by four points.”

Free pass?

That is the last thing we need at Ibrox, someone already having one eye on the end of this season and into next year.

Given the change in rankings, top spot in the Scottish Premiership will gain automatic qualification to the biggest tournament in the world and that has to be the goal.

Alongside that is a £40million windfall, something that the likes of Douglas Park will be desperate for after the recent losses.

Complacency will be punished, with Celtic starting to clean up their ideas after a faltering start and a four-point gap separates us.

Finishing top and winning title number 56 as well the chance to win domestic cups and go far in Europe has to be the goal for any new manager coming in.

That is the motivation, time for someone to take it.
