Ross Wilson to draw up shortlist for Rangers job, Giovanni van Bronkhorst interest made aware

Rangers have been made aware of Giovanni Van Bronkhorst’s interest in the newly-available post at Ibrox.

The Athletic journalist Jordan Campbell has reported the next steps after Steven Gerrard left for Aston Villa on Thursday morning.

It is reported that Ross Wilson is going to draw up a shortlist of names to take over in Glasgow, and it isn’t known if Van Bronkhorst is on that.

Rangers

Wilson has good experience in finding new managers.

Having worked at Southampton before moving to Rangers, he played a crucial role in appointing Ralph Hassenhuttl.

The Austrian has done a superb job in the Premier League, and he will be looking for someone to have a similar effect here.

Gerrard has left at one of the most crucial parts of our recent history, with finishing top simply critical.

Guaranteed qualification to the Champions League group stage and a windfall of £40million, that is the only goal for our next manager.

Clear candidate?

Van Bronkhorst is the clear candidate, and it could be perfect.

The Dutchman won titles at Feyenoord despite the dominance of Ajax and has since had spells working in China too.

Given he is unemployed though, it would cost no compensation that others would, with the club not in a position to do so right now.

Wilson simply has to get this right, and given the pressure set to be on anyone coming in, one wrong step could spell disaster.

Can Van Bronkhorst deal with that? He looks as though he can.
