Alan Shearer reacts on Twitter as Rangers confirm Steven Gerrard move to Aston Villa

Alan Shearer has shared an instant reaction on Twitter after it was confirmed that Steven Gerrard has left Rangers to join Aston Villa.

Rangers have delivered a brilliant message on their club’s official website, thanking Gerrard for the brilliant work he has done during his three and a half year spell at the Ibrox club.

Gerrard took charge of Rangers when they were heading in no direction, and made them a competitive force in the league once again.

Shearer has taken to Twitter to express his reaction after Villa confirmed the appointment of their new boss.

He wrote: “Congratulations Stevie”

Rangers must act smart

According to reports from The Athletic, Gerrard got frustrated towards the end with a lack of transfer funds.

Rangers are already running on losses and Gerrard probably felt he has taken the club to the best of his ability.

Gerrard will remain as a hero among the Gers fans after delivering them a memorable campaign last season. And yet the defeat to Malmo was a low point in his managerial career at Ibrox.

Rangers are a huge club, and there won’t be a shortage of competent managers out there who would be willing to take the job.

If the Gers can win the title, Gerrard’s legacy will be restored, for he has given the new manager a solid squad to work with. However, the club must appoint the right manager who can take the club forward.
