Heart & Hand: Rangers owed more than £2m compensation for Steven Gerrard

It looks as though Rangers are finally set to lose Steven Gerrard to the Premier League during this international break.

The Telegraph has reported that the Bears boss wants to take over at Aston Villa, who have completed a background check and are now readying an approach.

Bizarrely, the same report claimed that Villa would only owe the Scottish champions £2million to take Gerrard away from the club.

One Rangers fans was outraged by that suggestion, taking to his personal Twitter account to share his dismay.

“Celtic had a £9M release clause for [Brendan Rodgers] and his staff,” he wrote. “Our executive team has allowed our manager to operate with a £2M release clause. Disgraceful.”

Official media partner of the club, Heart & Hand have responded to that and shut down the claims of the low figure already.

“And not actually true,” they wrote.

Disgraceful?

£2million would have been nothing short of an insult.

Rangers have worked tirelessly to return to the big time, and under Gerrard, we have taken back control of Scotland and worked magic in Europe.

To throw that away for that figure would simply have been an insult to everyone who pays their hard-earned money to show up and watch every single week.

With Michael Beale and Gary McAllister also said to be wanted, we are hoping that it is much closer to £10million.

Villa have billionaire owners, and they will have no problems paying that sort of money – if you want him that badly, cough up the money.
