Aston Villa to make official approach for Steven Gerrard as early as Wednesday
Aston Villa could finally launch their official approach for Rangers boss Steven Gerrard as early as today.
That’s according to the Daily Record, who report that after “frantic” negotiations have taken place behind the scenes.
It looks as though the Premier League side have singled out Gerrard and want him as their number one target during this break.

Writing in their live blog late on Tuesday evening, the Daily Record made it clear that this move could happen imminently.
“Ibrox bosses had been placed on a 48-hour red alert as Villa considered making an official approach for permission to open discussions with the former Liverpool skipper over replacing Dean Smith in the Villa Park hot seat,” they wrote.
“And now we understand that move could come as early as Wednesday following a series of frantic negotiations behind the scenes over the last 24 hours.”

It’s happening.
Well, we can’t say that it doesn’t hurt, but it has been coming.
With every single Premier League job that becomes available, Gerrard has been instantly named as the favourite for nearly every single one of them.
One thing that we do strongly disagree with is that the Bears have been used as a stepping stone to the Premier League, though.
No one can argue that Gerrard has delivered the good times back to Ibrox, and he has to be applauded with how the club will be left should he leave.
Could we keep Michael Beale? The talk will instantly change to his backroom staff should Villa get their man, but could the Bears look to keep hold of the mastermind?
Lauded across Europe for his tactical nouse, Beale at the helm would be a brilliant appointment and not lead to too much change, if any at Auchenhowie.
It’s time to prepare, let’s just hope we get every last penny we deserve for this.
