Steven Gerrard interested in Villa job, background checks complete

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is interested in taking charge of Aston Villa as they search for a new manager.

The Telegraph have reported that the Premier League clubs have completed their background checks on the Bears gaffer.

It is understood that should the Gers grant permission, Gerrard will start talks with Villa alongside Gary McAllister and Michael Beale.

Rangers look set to lose a major part of their backroom staff during the international break over the next two weeks.

The “ambitious” club are now set to make an approach to the Bears, who will have an answer to make in the near future.

Gerrard will await that permission, but given his personal stance, it looks as though the club may not stand much chance of standing in his way.

Start of the end.

It looks as though we are going to have to start accepting the fact that Gerrard won’t be in charge of our next game.

Villa appear to be stepping up their chase now and their billionaire owners will have no problem meeting any of our demands.

The Bears need to play this smart and get a compensation package that works for them, especially if McAllister and Beale are following him south of the border.

Gerrard has delivered the good times back to Ibrox, and has earned the right to be linked with other jobs and if this is the route he wants to take, we can’t be too angry, although he will leave us with a slight tear.
