Paul Merson: Aston Villa could be too good for Steven Gerrard to turn down
Paul Merson has insisted that Aston Villa could be hard to turn down for Rangers boss Steven Gerrard this week.
The Bears look set to face a real battle to keep hold of their title-winning gaffer after Dean Smith was shown the axe this week.
Merson admitted that Rangers are bigger than half of the Premier League, but the division could be too much to say no too.

Speaking to Sky Sports this week, Merson has insisted that it could be too good of an opportunity to turn down.
“It’s going to be hard to prise Steven Gerrard away, he’s managing a massive club in Glasgow Rangers,” he said.
“Everyone wants to manage in the Premier League. That is no disrespect to the Scottish Premiership. Rangers and Celtic are bigger clubs than probably half of the teams in the Premier League.
“But it’s the Premier League, and when you start out managing, I’m sure in the back of people’s minds if you could get a job like Aston Villa – wow.”
Surely not…
This is the same argument that keeps arising every single time, and it is happening nearly every single week this season.
Gerrard is the easiest name to link to any Premier League job given his links and his ultimate desire to manage Liverpool further down the line.
It is easy to put two and two together, and that is exactly what many are doing now – just as they did with Everton and Newcastle.
The Villa links do appear to have more substance, and they could lead to something, but not without healthy compensation for the Bears.
No matter happens, the likes of Ross Wilson have to make sure that it is on our terms and leaves us in a better position than worst.
In other Rangers news, Kris Boyd has destroyed one Bears star this week over an embarrassing stat from this season
