Aston Villa will need to pay Rangers £2million compensation for Steven Gerrard
Aston Villa will need to pay Rangers £2million in compensation to appoint Steven Gerrard during the international break.
The Telegraph have shared the major update on Tuesday evening, as the story appeared to pick up pace on either side of the border.
It is suggested that the seven-figure fee is in Gerrard’s latest contract, which runs until 2024 at Ibrox with nearly two years left.

Gary McAllister and Michael Beale will also be on red alert.
If talks are successful at Villa Park, it is suggested that the Premier League club will also want to bring Gerrard’s entire team with him.
It would set Rangers back to step one, and leave them looking for a new manager for the first time in years.
Things have completely changed since that period too, with Gerrard potentially leaving the defending champions now looking to retain their title.

Surely not.
We can’t believe that the clause would be so low, and surely it can’t be right.
The Bears have one of the best coaching set-ups in the United Kingdom, with the likes of Beale hailed around Europe.
Given our financial trouble and losses that have been announced in recent weeks, this could be much-needed money.
Any club in the top-two tiers of England could afford to pay £2million, even some in the third-tier if you add the likes of Sunderland.
The Bears board would not be forgiven if Gerrard was allowed to leave for such a tiny fee, and hopefully, that is at least doubled.
