Gabriel Agbonlahor silences Danny Murphy over Rangers comments
Gabriel Agbonlahor believes that Danny Murphy is speaking “nonsense” when he said that Steven Gerrard would not swap Rangers for Aston Villa.
Gerrard’s name was thrown into the hat once Dean Smith and Aston Villa decided to part ways, which led to many speculating whether or not the Gers boss would consider the job.
“I’d be very surprised if he left Rangers to go to Villa,” Murphy told TalkSPORT. “Villa are a great club. There is only so far you can take them. Is there a step between Rangers and Liverpool? I’m not sure.”
TalkSPORT shared this tweet on their official handle and Agbonlahor, a former Villa player himself, issued a four-worded response to his colleague.
He wrote, “Behave Danny. Utter nonsense.”
On par
We side with Murphy when he talks about there being not much of a difference between Villa and Rangers.
While Villa’s revenues are significantly higher, that’s down to the fact that they’re playing in the Premier League and not because of them being a better club than Gers.
Historically, the Glasgow giants have proven to be a European powerhouse and with the right investment could get there again.

Where Murphy slightly gets off track is saying that there’s no step between Liverpool and Rangers.
For Gerrard to get the Liverpool job, he may have to prove himself in the Premier League first.
This makes the Villa job tempting and possibly the only reason why he would consider joining them.
