Aston Villa ready to pay compensation as Rangers man Steven Gerrard linked with job

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has once again been linked with a Premier League job this week, this time Aston Villa.

The Athletic has shared that Villa chief executive Christian Purslow knows Gerrard from their time together at Liverpool, and classes him as a “strong candidate.”

It is reported that the billionaire-owned club is ready to pay compensation to get who they want to replace Dean Smith.

Here we go again, with Gerrard looking likely to be strongly tipped for a move south of the border.

The Premier League has seen numerous sackings already this season, and it appears as though the Bears gaffer will appear on every list after that.

With Gerrard contracted at Ibrox until 2024, it would need to be a handsome compensation package to even kickstart negotiations.

It is said that a replacement should be found before the next Premier League round of fixtures, with Villa playing Brighton on the 20th.

Ralph Hasenhuttl and Thomas Frank are also said to be admired, suggesting it will be a long process during the international break.

Rangers

No chance.

This cannot be allowed to happen.

Gerrard will surely have his eyes set on Rangers, and that only with a huge end to the season ahead of us over the next year.

The Bears can automatically qualify for the Champions League by winning the title and that has to be the only goal on his mind at this moment in time.

We expect this with every Premier League job that becomes available, with the exact same happening at Newcastle, and even Everton over the summer.

The only acceptable one that we could see happening, is of course, Liverpool, but Jurgen Klopp still has time on his current deal at Anfield.

Handsome compensation or not, that does nothing for the Bears, who will be much better off with keeping Gerrard and moving forward with him at the helm.
