Michael Stewart unsure on BBC Sportscene return after Rangers v Aberdeen controversy

Michael Stewart is unsure of when he’ll next appear on BBC Sportscene amid calls to return over the controversy in Rangers’ 2-2 draw with Aberdeen on Wednesday night.

James Tavernier scored a late penalty to earn the Gers a point at Ibrox but John Beaton’s decision to point to the spot was a debatable one with seemingly minimal contact between David Bates and Fashion Sakala.

After the game on Wednesday night, BBC Sportscene pundits James McFadden and Shelley Kerr both said they thought Beaton was right to award a penalty.

That led to a lot of anger from those who don’t support the Gers and one Aberdeen fan urged Stewart to get back on Sportscene for “unbiased analysis”.

However, Stewart isn’t so sure about when his next appearance on the BBC will be.

Writing via his personal Twitter account, Stewart said: “Not involved unfortunately. Don’t know when I’ll be back.”

Brilliant

Stewart has had some tremendous moments on BBC Sportscene in recent years. And when we say tremendous, we mean tremendously bad.

Firstly, being dropped by the BBC isn’t new for everyone’s favourite former Rangers trialist.

Last year the Scottish Herald reported that the ex-Scotland midfielder was dropped by BBC over comments he made about Jim Traynor.

He was replaced by McFadden back then with the ex-Motherwell man also appeared on Sportscene this week amid this latest mystery over Stewart’s absense.

Since being allowed back on Sportscene, Stewart has gone as far to suggest that the rules should be changed over red cards after Aberdeen’s Ryan Hedges was sent off against the Gers last season.

Stewart is a pundit who’s blinded by bias.

He really doesn’t like Rangers and that’s fair enough. We don’t expect everyone to hate us.

But when that hatred takes over in the way it clearly does with the failed Ibrox trialist then it can lead to some really embarrassing moments.

In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton has also reacted to the controversy.
