Steven Gerrard comments on Conor Goldson’s Rangers contract situation
Steven Gerrard has suggested that he is “not confident” about Rangers defender Connor Goldson signing a contract extension at the club.
Goldson has only a few months left on his current deal at Ibrox, and as of now, there has not been any reported contract offer on the table.
The 28-year-old claimed earlier this week that he hasn’t received any offers from the club about an extension.

Gerrard has suggested that although he is not concerned about Goldson’s situation, he is not confident either about him staying put.
The Gers boss has hailed him as “magnificent” for his performance against Brondby, adding he is a “valuable player” for him and the club.
Gerrard has reiterated that he wants Goldson to commit his future and he is hopeful that all parties can reach an agreement at some point.
“I’m not concerned, I’m not confident. I’m not really overthinking about it,” said Gerrard, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“Connor’s a big boy. He’s a man. Ross Wilson’s office is right next door to mine. At the same time, we have to concentrate on the football so it’s important Connor keeps playing the way he is.
“I thought he was magnificent again last night. He was my player of the year last year and I think for me he’s gotten more consistent over his time at Rangers. He’s a really valuable player for me and the club.
“Hopefully we can find a solution in terms of getting him tied up, I can’t really go any further in terms of you know how much I want it to happen and I want him to stay. At the end of the day.”

Asset for the club
Goldson has been outstanding for the club since joining from Brighton in 2018. He has been an epitome of consistency and helped the club lift the SPFL title last season after a long wait of ten years.
Recently, Barry Ferguson also suggested that Rangers must do everything to keep Goldson at the club, and reach a common ground. And now Gerrard has made it very clear that he wants him to stay at Ibrox.
Goldson is a leader at the club and Gerrard knows how important he is to the side. When he plays, Rangers look so stable at the back.
It is indeed a big shame that the club has allowed his situation to run this far, when they should have sorted out his contract in the summer.
Losing him for free doesn’t make sense in terms of business. Moreover, he is at the peak of his career, and Rangers must look to reap the best years out of him.
Goldson is expected to feature on Sunday when Rangers face St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership clash away from home.
