Connor Goldson provides an update on Rangers contract talks

Rangers defender Connor Goldson has claimed that he has not received any update on a contract extension at the club.

The 28-year-old defender joined the Gers in 2018 and has been a key player for the club. In the previous three seasons at the club, he has made over 50 appearances every time.

He was a rock at the back last season for Steven Gerrard’s side, but he is now facing an uncertain future at the club.

Back in July, Gerrard claimed that he was confident that Rangers would tie up Goldson on a new deal at the club.

The Englishman is now entering the final months of his Ibrox deal and he will be free to speak with other clubs regarding a free transfer in the summer.

“No, I haven’t heard anything,” said Goldson as quoted by the Daily Record.

“I haven’t really spoken to my agent or the club recently so I couldn’t tell you where it’s at but I’m just focused on the club, playing football & making sure this club wins.”

Worrying

Goldson was an integral part of Gerrard’s side since he joined Ibrox, and he was ever-present during the title-winning campaign last season.

According to reports from the Daily Record, Goldson has been frequently linked with a move to the Premier League, with West Ham being credited with an interest.

He is available to sign a pre-contract in January, and Rangers will now have to make a big decision on his future. A player of his calibre cannot simply leave on a free transfer.

One of the major problems Rangers have faced in recent years is that they have failed to recoup enough money from player sales. It would be a massive loss, both in terms of squad depth and finance, if the Gers are to lose him for free next summer.

Goldson is expected to feature for Rangers against Brondby on Thursday in the crucial Europa League clash at Ibrox. Rangers have lost their opening two games, and they must win this one to stay alive in the competition.
