Rangers boss Steven Gerrard interested in Newcastle United job after Steve Bruce sacking
Steven Gerrard is interested in taking charge of Newcastle United with the Rangers manager a candidate to replace Steve Bruce at St James’ Park, according to the Northern Echo.
The newspaper claims that after Bruce left Newcastle on Wednesday, Gerrard is among a list of names to succeed him with Paulo Fonseca, Eddie Howe and Unai Emery also under consideration.
The Northern Echo suggests that Gerrard is unlikely to be able to improve on what he’s already done at Ibrox after winning the Scottish Premiership title last season.

Please, no
We can’t understand why Gerrard would want to job at Newcastle unless he’s trying to get his foot in the door to manage higher up in the Premier League.
While Newcastle now have the richest owners in the world, they are still a club in the Premier League’s relegation zone with a squad that, for the most part, is the level you’d expect of a Championship team.
Newcastle’s next manager could very likely be finding himself in charge of a second-tier club next season. Or, worse still, sacked before the current season is over.
At Rangers, Gerrard has job security.

Even if we don’t win a league title every now and then, we’re not going to be calling for the head of the man who stopped 10-in-a-row, humiliated Celtic in the process and won our 55th title without a league defeat.
He’s not ever going to be 100 per cent safe and there’ll always be a few murmurs of discontent during his job at Ibox.
But here, Gerrard is adored by the masses and he’s guaranteed silverware and European football every season.
Newcastle are a great unknown right now.
