Michael Owen predicts Rangers clash v Brondby in Europa League
Michael Owen predicts Rangers will beat Brondby in the Europa League at Ibrox on Thursday night.
Steven Gerrard’s men will welcome the Danes to Glasgow this week in a bid to win their first points of the group stages.
Rangers have been beaten by Lyon and Sparta Prague, leaving them bottom of Group A.
But Owen predicts Gerrard will achieve lift-off on Thursday and backs the Gers to win 2-1.
Writing on the BetVictor website, Owen said: “It’s been a disappointing start for Rangers in the Europa League, and they’ll be targeting six points from their two games against Brondby.
“I fancy Rangers to narrowly get the win here, 2-1.”
After losing their opening two matches, suffering defeat for the third time in the Europa League group stages is unthinkable for Rangers.
While this season there’s been a change that sees teams who finish third stay in European competition by dropping to the UEFA Europa Conference League, Gerrard will be eyeing a top-two finish to take the Light Blues to the knock-out rounds of the Europa League for the third time in as many years.
And if we’re going to finish first or second, beating Brondby – both home and away – is an absolute must.
Otherwise, we may even be looking at a fourth-placed finish in Group A and that would be a massive backwards step for Gerrard and his squad.
We’re yet to see Rangers in full flight this season. Not enough of Gerrard’s players are pulling their weight and none of them are really matching expectations.
That needs to change as soon as possible. Hopefully, starting on Thursday night.
In other Rangers news, these two players are likely to exit Ibrox next year as Gerrard closes in on a new signing.
