Alfredo Morelos pays tribute to Rangers fans

Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has paid rich tribute to the Ibrox fans this week, saying they are ‘really loyal’.

The Colombian has been one of the key players for the Gers since he joined the club in 2017 and has been the club’s main goalscoring outlet in the previous four seasons but he has not been at his best this term.

What has impressed Morelos about the Gers fans is the unflinching support they provide even when the team plays away in a different country, especially in European games.

In an interview with Futboleros con la FAM, he claimed that he didn’t want to leave Rangers before winning a title with the Glasgow club.

Morelos said: “I didn’t want to leave Rangers without winning the title, without scoring against Celtic and this year was the season that we played best.

“They were all good seasons but this was the best season because we made history with the points, won nearly all our matches, we played really well.

“The Rangers fans are a really loyal following. They support us everywhere we go, those fans. Even when we go to play in other countries, far from Glasgow.

“We always feel that support, it’s unconditional for us as players and for me as they love me a lot.”

Hint about the future?

Morelos played his part last season as Rangers won the league title for the first time in ten years. The 25-year-old scored 17 goals in all competitions for the club last season.

Interestingly, while commenting about the fans, Morelos has said that he gets motivated whenever the fans chant his name and it makes him feel “to keep working and to stay and play there for years to come.”

Last month, Morelos, however, hinted that he wants to leave Rangers ‘soon’.

Rangers fans will love this comment from Morelos, although it should be taken with a pinch of salt. If there’s a good offer on the table for him next summer, Rangers will surely consider selling him, but the fact that he wants to stay and do well here is pleasing to hear.

Recently, Steven Gerrard has urged Morelos to start scoring more goals. He has only managed five goals this term, and everyone knows he is capable of better than this.
