Joe Rothwell ‘almost certain’ to sign pre-contract agreement with Rangers

Blackburn Rovers midfielder Joe Rothwell is “almost certain” to sign a pre-contract agreement with Rangers in January.

That’s according to Football League World, who report on their website that the Englishman will move to Ibrox next summer.

The Bears have taken advantage of this numerous times, with Scottish clubs able to approach players running down their deals earlier than other English sides.

Rangers are in the driving seat for Rothwell’s signature as things stand.

Sources close to Blackburn have shared that the club are ready for the agreement to be sealed, as they look ready to accept his impending exit.

Norwich and Bournemouth are also said to hold an interest in the 26-year-old, who has played for Manchester United in his career.

Despite that, the Bears are leading the race and look as though they will be the winners at the start of next year.

Bring it forward?

Could Ross Wilson look to work some of his magic and get this one over the line sooner rather than later?

The likes of Jack Simpson and Scott Wright agreed pre-contract deals, but small fees were paid to bring them forward and into the club in January.

Blackburn won’t want to lose one of their star men for nothing, and should a small fee be offered, they could be tempted to accept to make it an immediate transfer.

Rothwell has been a standout performer for Rovers this season, starting all 12 Championship games – scoring one and assisting four goals.

It is clear that Steven Gerrard wants his midfield strengthening even further, could this be a sign that Steven Davis is currently in his final season? Time will tell.
