Tom English hits back at Rangers boss Steven Gerrard for comments on Newcastle job

Tom English has hit back at Rangers boss Steven Gerrard for his comments on the potential vacant Newcastle job.

PiF Capital recently completed their takeover of the Magpies making them the richest club in the world, with Gerrard admitting his intrigue.

With Gerrard strongly linked, English claimed that his recent comments may as well as seen him wearing a Newcastle shirt.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound, English aimed the jibe at the Bears head coach after his latest press conference.

“He goes on to say, on Friday, I think it’s very interesting what’s happening at Newcastle,” he said. “He said ‘I think if anyone deserves a break, it’s the Geordie fans.’

“I’m sure the excitement levels are very high down on the Toon. I’m not sure if he was wearing a Newcastle jersey. He said that everyone in the game is looking at that with interest in how it develops.

“If you’ve no interest in that job, you’d go down the Rodgers route.”

No chance.

There is simply no world where Gerrard would leave Rangers midway through the season to join Newcastle.

Intrigue is in the minds of everyone, but moving to St James’ Park could ruin his ultimate dream of taking over at Liverpool.

Just because Newcastle have money, doesn’t mean that they aren’t in a relegation battle as things stand.

Steve Bruce is also still in charge, and should he be sacked soon, the new manager would need nearly a completely new squad to make them competitive.

The money is there, but with Financial Fair Play rules also in play, Gerrard would be much better staying at Ibrox, going for automatic Champions League qualification and trying his luck in the biggest competition in the world.
