Tam McManus blasts Rangers fans over Joe Aribo incident in 1-1 draw v Hearts

Tam McManus has hit out at Rangers fans on Twitter over the silence surrounding Joe Aribo’s challenge on Hearts’ Cammy Devlin at Ibrox on Sunday.

Before the international break, Hibernian defender Ryan Porteous was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Aribo.

HibsTV pundit McManus was flooded with messages from Rangers fans about Porteous challenge earlier this month but after seeing Aribo only booked for his tackle on Devlin, the ex-player has suggested a degree of contradiction by the Bears.

Rangers

“I got sent hundreds of screenshots last week from Rangers fans slaughtering the Porteous tackle. Every angle on the planet! Shocker. Leg breaker,” said McManus in his first tweet on Saturday night.

“Weirdly not received a single still photo of the Aribo tackle today from any Rangers fans. Not one.”

In a second tweet, the former Hibernian player added: “Still photos are a load of [swear] is the point I’m trying to make. Bombarded last week with them. Not seen the tackle either to be fair as Sportscene never showed it.

“But you can spin any still photo/slowed down tackle to pad your argument/opinion on something.”

Stop being so silly

Porteous’ challenge on Aribo was a red card.

The Hibs defender lunged in, both feet left the ground and his red card was upheld by the SFA after an appeal by McManus’ former club.

He’s biased. He doesn’t want to see Hibs players being sent off. But it happened and it was the correct decision – get over it.

Aribo’s challenge on Devlin was a different matter.

As you can see in the video clip below, Aribo outstretches his leg and catches Devlin. But he doesn’t leave the ground, he doesn’t go in with excessive force and he doesn’t endanger the Hearts player.

McManus is clearly a Hibs fan. That’s fine. Be as biased as you like.

But he’s wrong.
