Ally McCoist labels Rangers ‘extremely average’ after Chris Sutton question
Ally McCoist has labelled Rangers’ start to the Scottish Premiership season as “extremely average” this weekend.
Speaking with Chris Sutton, the Bears icon was quizzed on Steven Gerrard’s men after taking aim at Celtic and Aberdeen before the break.
McCoist admitted there is still more to come from Rangers, but insisted that fans of Celtic will be praying for the same as they sit six points behind in the table.

Speaking on BT Sports Scottish Football Extra, McCoist hasn’t been impressed with the quality on show from most teams this season.
“I’ve said every week I don’t think Rangers have got going, I really don’t,” he said. “I still think there’s improvement in them.
“I’ve got to say, if I’m an Aberdeen or Celtic fan, I’m sitting hoping there’s improvement in my team as well.”
Sutton hit back at that: “You say two bang average teams, but what would you use as an adjective for Rangers this season?”
That led to yet another bit of honesty from the Ibrox legend – “Extremely average, as well.”

Average.
No one will disagree with this, especially Gerrard who has voiced his concerns after each performance this season.
Having said that, the difference between Rangers and the chasing pack is that they still find a way to pick up the three points no matter what is happening in their games.
Hearts are currently second but are playing out of their socks, they could be hit by a big reality check this afternoon at Ibrox – something which could extend our lead at the top even more.
It must be disheartening for the rest of the chasing pack that Rangers are sitting top still despite their “extremely average” form.
If we ever get going similar to last season, it will be a real issue for those who want to try and compete for silverware.
