Leon Balogun ready to play for Rangers v Hearts after injury scare
Rangers fans will have been biting their nails at the sight of Leon Balogun being forced off injured for Nigeria this week on international duty.
The last thing Steven Gerrard needs at this moment is another defensive injury, with Filip Helander already out long term at Ibrox.
Jordan Campbell has shared a major update on the situation with Balogun set to return to Glasgow ahead of the clash with Hearts this weekend.
Writing on his personal Twitter account, the Athletic journalist shared whether the Nigerian will be ready for the clash.
“Leon Balogun is expected to be fit for Hearts after his injury scare on Sunday but it highlighted the shortage at centre-back currently,” he wrote.
Jack Simpson would be the man to step in for the Bears should Balogun not be ready, and that is something we’d rather not happen.
The last time the former Bournemouth man partnered Conor Goldson was against Motherwell, and that was a shambles at the back throughout.
With Hearts currently sitting second in the Scottish Premiership, this game is simply a must-win to create yet another gap between us and the chasing pack.
Gerrard will want his strongest side available, and at this moment in time, Balogun is miles ahead of Simpson.
The defence is starting to become a real issue for the Light Blues, and most of our injury and COVID problems have hit that area.
Should Goldson remain fit and ever-present after his own little absence earlier in the season, there should be confidence in that area.
