Neil McCann destroys Borna Barisic in Rangers draw v Motherwell
Neil McCann has singled out Borna Barisic as Rangers threw away three points against Motherwell on Sunday.
The Bears took the lead at Ibrox but drew 1-1 in the end after poor defending led to the equaliser in the second half.
Barisic was singled out for his lack of knowledge, and not being tighter to the rest of his defence to prevent the chance from happening.
Speaking on BBC Sportscene, McCann admitted that the defence is becoming a real worry for Steven Gerrard.
“That was maybe a feature of the game,” he said.
“That whole back four is disjointed, there is too big of a gap. They need to slide across and compress the pitch and defend properly.
“As O’Hara breaks through here, look at Barisic – he should be getting closer. He doesn’t, one yard inside and he would have got the block in.
“The gap, look at the size of it. He’s flatfooted, as a back four this season, I don’t think they’re cohesive.”
All over the place.
Gerrard will have been left fuming with his defence yesterday.
No one can go through entire seasons without making mistakes at any level, but the likes of Barisic and Jack Simpson were all over the place in this one.
McCann singled out how disjointed they looked, and the question will start to be asked, especially about Simpson, who continues to look not up to scratch.
Having said that, experienced players such as Barisic are joining that queue too, and we can’t be carrying anyone at this moment in time.
The Bears missed a real opportunity to grasp command in the league yesterday with Celtic losing, and although we still stand top, there are many issues that need ironing out and quickly.
