Richard Foster: Fashion Sakala goal offside v Motherwell
Richard Foster has insisted that Rangers forward Fashion Sakala should have had his goal disallowed against Motherwell.
The Bears got off to a flyer at Ibrox, but eventually ended up drawing the game 1-1 in disappointing fashion.
Foster believes the linesman had a simple decision to make for the goal, but missed a clear offside as Sakala nodded home his first competitive strike for the club.
Speaking on BBC Sportscene last night, Foster couldn’t believe his eyes that the decision wasn’t given against Sakala.
“No,” he said. “Short answer, he is offside.
“This is right before, I don’t know what the two centre-halves are doing there. You’ll see it coming up, it’s not even a difficult one for the linesman to get right.
“He’s looking right across the line. When the ball comes in here, Aribo does well and flicks it on, the linesman is looking right across the line at it and the Rangers player is the first he sees.
“It must be offside. That is an easy one to get right and they’ve got it wrong.”
Steven Gerrard won’t flinch too much of an eye at this one, especially given some of the decisions against his side in recent times.
Officiating in Scotland as really come under the microscope at times in the past year, with the Bears usually at the heart of things.
More funding could lead to full-time officials, and then possibly the introduction of VAR further down the line.
That wouldn’t have helped Rangers yesterday, but in the long run, it would surely help more than hinder.
It is quite clear that Sakala is offside, but hopefully, this stroke of fortune can bring along more success for our summer signing in the final third.
