Stephen Craigan destroys 'Criminal' Ryan Kent in first half of Rangers v Lyon
Stephen Craigan tore Ryan Kent to shreds for his role in Rangers conceding the opening goal to Lyon at Ibrox on Thursday night.
Karl Toko Ekamby scored a superb goal from outside the penalty area in the opening Europa League group stage fixture in Glasgow.
Kent gifted away possession in the build-up to Ekambi’s goal while Craigan was also disappointed by John Lundstram’s inability to keep the Lyon ace out wide.
Speaking on BT Sport 3 on Thursday night, Craigan said: “A couple of things, it’s criminal from Ryan Kent.
“If you’re a wide player in the middle of the pitch, you can’t afford to give up cheap possession and being sloppy.
“John Lundstram, you can’t allow Ekambi to come back in on his right foot. He wants to come in, open the goal up for himself, he allows him to do the stepover, goes for the dummy.
“Get him down the outside, get him down the line to try and cross the ball into the box.
“Really sloppy from Rangers all around but let’s not take anything away from Ekambi.”
Rangers had their moments in the first half against Lyon but ultimately, they switched off and allowed one of the away side’s more talented players do so something sublime.
Yes, it was a great long-range goal from Ekambi but my word, we basically gifted him with the opportunity to score.
Kent’s loss of possession followed by the woeful defensive work from Lundstram was just begging for us to concede.
Based on what we have seen of him in a Rangers shirt so far, Lundstram has been one of the worst signings since Pedro Caixinha’s days at Ibrox.
Steven Gerrard has got it right so often at Ibrox that we’ve forgotten what it’s like to see a new signing come in and start so slowly.
Lundstram isn’t the only one to have a bad start to the campaign but the ex-Sheffield United player has more to prove after leaving a relegated club to join the Scottish champions.
