Joe Aribo seems to spit near Lyon player in Rangers Europa League defeat

Joe Aribo appeared to spit near to Lyon’s Bruno Guimarães as Rangers lost in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Karl Toko Ekambi’s strike and an unfortunate own goal by James Tavernier sealed a 2-0 defeat for the Light Blues as their woeful European form continued at Ibrox.

In the second half, BT Sport’s cameras seemed to have caught a shocking moment when Aribo looked as though he spat towards the ground while Guimarães lay next to him.

Guimarães was on the deck after being fouled by Aribo, who was booked for a late challenge on the Lyon midfielder.

After the yellow card was issued, the footage cut away to a clip of Aribo spitting downwards as he walked past Guimarães.

VAR was in operation and nothing was brought to the attention of the referee.

However, some people on Twitter also caught the disgusting moment.

It wasn’t discussed by BT Sport’s pundits either so we can only presume they did not see the highlight that UEFA’s footage showed.

But if Aribo did indeed show an intent to spit at the ground while Guimarães’ direction, the Rangers star could find himself in hot water with UEFA.

Steven Gerrard’s side has been in woeful form in Europe this season and losing a player like Aribo – if anything does come of this – will only make things worse for the Scottish champions.

It really is one bad thing after another lately
