Brandon Barker set to exit Rangers on deadline day
Brandon Barker has been deemed as “surplus to requirements” and is set to exit Rangers on deadline day, according to Sky Sports.
The broadcaster reports that Barker, 24, is expected to move out “one way or the other” before the 11pm transfer deadline tonight.
Nikola Katic could also be loaned out by the Scottish champions in a bid to get him some much-needed game-time after a lengthy injury lay-off.
It has been a tough summer for Barker.
He spent the second half of last season on loan at Oxford United and impressed in England’s League One as they reached the play-offs.
The former Manchester City and England Under-20s attacker scored three goals and supplied four assists in his 22 outings for Oxford United.
His form there suggested it shouldn’t be too difficult to sell him on this summer – but that hasn’t been the case.
Barker is yet to make any of Steven Gerrard’s matchday squads this season and has been completely frozen out by the Light Blues manager.
The forward’s contract expires next year so now is the chance to sell him on for some money otherwise we’ll be running the risk of losing him on a free transfer next year.
That wouldn’t be the end of the world but selling him for even a few hundred thousand would be better than paying his wages for another year and then him leaving on a free.
Hopefully there’ll be a taker for Barker, who simply hasn’t done it at Ibrox.
In other Rangers news, a player has been spotted holding a Celtic shirt aloft after leaving Ibrox.
