Leon Balogun has shocker in Rangers win v Ross County
Leon Balogun endured a nightmare performance for Rangers on Sunday even though they managed to win against Ross County at Dingwall.
Joe Aribo, Connor Goldson, Alfredo Morelos and Scott Arfield all scored for the Gers in the 4-2 win to get their Scottish Premiership form back on track.
However, it was far from plain sailing for Steven Gerrard and his players.
Although we grabbed the three points, there was definitely a fear that Ross County would have snatched a point with how poor we looked at the back at times.
Balogun was at the heart of the poor defensive performance with the 33-year-old proving himself to be a liability at times.
Filip Helander missed out of the defence for Balogun, who started alongside goalscorer Goldson with Gerrard presumably keeping the Sweden international fresh for the trip to Alashkert on Thursday.
But doing that weakened the defence and Balogun had a shocker.
The former Wigan defender struggled to cope with simple passes from the Ross County attackers while the Nigeria international could have easily prevented the penalty we conceded in the second half.
There was a simple ball down the channel and Balogun simply failed to cope with it.
A number of Gers fans on Twitter made their feelings known about Balogun’s performance, with one calling him a “liability“.
Gerrard has Nikola Katic coming back to full fitness and surely the Croatia should be ahead of Balogun in the pecking order now.
Jack Simpson may not have convinced the majority of fans but he’s another option for Gerrard.
Balogun simply isn’t good enough for what we need.
