Kris Boyd: Rangers would make mistake by dropping Ryan Kent v Ross County
Rangers winger Ryan Kent has been under the microscope after a slow start to the season in all competitions.
Steven Gerrard dragged the attacker off at half-time of the win over Alashkert on Thursday, and Kris Boyd admitted he made a big statement.
However, the Bears icon insisted that it would be a big mistake to drop him for the upcoming clash against Ross County.
Writing for the Scottish Sun this weekend, Boyd admitted that Gerrard will be annoyed that Kent hasn’t shown his best yet.
“What will be annoying Gerrard and his coaching staff most is that they know just how good he is,” he wrote.
“However, I think it would be the wrong call to have him on the bench at Ross County.”
Of course, Kent is one of our best in the final third, but that means nothing if you are not playing at that level consistently.
The winger is dropping far too deep in games rather than staying wide and isolating his man, something that Scott Wright is doing.
Gerrard may be tempted to hand Kent a rest, he has been used consistently for years now without real rest, and that could be taking its toll on him.
No one is untouchable, and the Bears have more than enough strength in depth to go to Ross County and pick up three points, with Kent starting or not.
Being introduced off the bench could give him a huge shot in the arm, one thing for certain is that he definitely needs it.
