Steven Gerrard waxes lyrical of Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara

Steven Gerrard has been impressed by Glen Kamara’s time at Rangers and expects him to extend his current deal at the club.

The 25-year-old has been linked with an exit from the Ibrox this summer, but on Thursday, The Athletic reported that he was close to extending his deal at the club.

Gerrard is hopeful that he quickly puts pen to paper to a new deal as he’s been impressed by his performances and wants the entire contract situation behind him as soon as possible.

Speaking to the press ahead of the game, the Gers boss said, via The Daily Record, “Glen’s progress has been brilliant and he has become a real established international player.

“I love the kid and the player and I want him to stay.”

Finally

After months of uncertainty where the pendulum kept swinging as to whether he would stay or leave, it finally appears like the 25-year-old has made up his mind to continue at the Ibrox and what remains is last-minute discrepancies which are unlikely to cause a huge issue.

Even if he decides to leave next summer, he won’t have just one year left on his deal as his current one expires in 2023, but will have at least two or three years on it which could see us demand an even higher transfer fee for his services.

Given how he’s performed over the last two years, his value is only likely to skyrocket 12 or 24 months down the line.

He’s already made 107 appearances for us and whenever he’s absent from the starting eleven, the dip in performances is apparent. Even against Malmo, we failed to control the midfield in the Finland international’s absence.

Kamara’s exceptional at controlling the tempo in games and playing that killer pass – something no midfielder in the side does.

We’re lucky to have someone like him in our ranks and long may the good times continue.
