Man United midfielder Charlie McCann arrives in Glasgow to undergo medical

Rangers are on the verge of signing midfielder Charlie McCann from Manchester United after he arrived in Glasgow for a medical, according to The Athletic.

The news outlet reports that the 19-year-old has agreed terms to join Steven Gerrard’s side on a three-year deal and an announcement is expected soon.

Rangers and Man United have reportedly been in talks over a compensation package for weeks and it is understood that McCann is someone who’ll join up with Rangers B before trying to break into the first-team.

Rangers

One for the future and potentially the present

According to The Athletic, Man United are ready to let McCann leave because they don’t feel he has what it takes to make their first-team.

That’s fair enough and it doesn’t make him a bad signing for Rangers if he cannot get into one of the best club teams in the world.

But you would imagine that someone who’s 19-years-old, has been training with Man United and performing for their Under-23s would be on the verge of getting into a squad in the Premiership.

Obviously, McCann isn’t as good as what Gerrard already has in the midfield.

The Coventry-born youngster can play in deep, central and attacking midfield roles while he also played on the left-wing at points for Man United’s Under-23s last season [transfermarkt].

He’s a good, versatile option who can cover if we have injuries and potentially play in cup matches.

Plus, Nnamdi Ofoborf might be out for a while after a heart issue was discovered and McCann can provide cover for him.

All in all, we’re happy with this signing and are excited to see what the Republic of Ireland youth international can do at Ibrox.
