Steven Gerrard initiates contact with Joey Veerman's agent - report
Steven Gerrard has reportedly initiated contact with Joey Veerman’s agent in a bid to bring him to Rangers this summer.
According to The Daily Record, the Gers boss has been tracking the 22-year-old for months and has finally made an initial contact to consolidate his interest in getting him to the Ibrox.
Per De Telegraaf, Rangers tabled a bid worth £3.85million for the Heerenveen midfielder, but a recent report in The Glasgow Times suggests £7million will be needed to get the deal done as the Scottish champions are hoping to strike an agreement with the Dutch club.
Despite signing two midfielders in Nnamdi Ofoborh and John Lundstram this summer, Gerrard is still interested in getting another name in as he looks to bolster his ranks in the middle of the park.
Getting a few names over the line in June and July clearly shows that Gerrard and Rangers mean business this summer.
We went unbeatable in the league last season and it was important we didn’t get caught up in the occasion and assume we had a side ready to retain the title in a year.
Midfield was a position that needed strengthening and we’ve got in a number of quality players in that area of the pitch.
Retaining the services of Glen Kamara would give us a solid midfield – one of the best we’ve seen at Rangers in years, but we don’t know what the future holds for the Finland midfielder.
That said, signing Veerman would be the ideal summer of midfield inputs. It would give us balance, goals, creativity and versatility.
At 22 he’s proven to be such an impeccable talent and we can’t wait to see how good he gets in the future.
Now with Gerrard so actively involved in the deal, we’re expecting to hear some good news in the coming days.
