Rangers want to seal £7m deal to sign Joey Veerman
Rangers want to sign “highly-rated” midfielder Joey Veerman this summer and hope a £7million deal can be agreed with Heerenveen, according to Glasgow Evening Times journalist Chris Jack.
The newspaper reporter claims Veerman, 22, is a “key target” for Steven Gerrard and the Gers manager wants to sign the playmaker before the club’s Premiership campaign begins in two weeks’ time.
It is understood that Veerman “could become the most expensive arrival of the transfer window at Ibrox”.
We’re genuinely excited about this one.
Veerman had a great season for Heerenveen in the Eredivisie last season, scoring seven goals and supplying 10 assists in his 31 league appearances.
He directly contributed to goals against Feyenoord, Ajax and PSV too so it’s not as though he left his best performances for the weaker teams in the Dutch top-flight.
As excited as we are about Veerman, it does leave us to worry about Glenn Kamara’s future at Ibrox.
According to the Glasgow Evening Times journalist Jack, Premier League clubs West Ham and Watford are “closely monitoring the 25-year-old’s situation this summer”.
It means that Veerman, unfortunately, could be seen as a replacement for Kamara.
However, that’s the way we need to operate now.
We need to sign players for a low price, as we did with Kamara, and then sell them for a major profit while replacing them with someone cheaper.
If Kamara goes for £10million and Veerman comes in for £7million, that could be really clever business by Ross Wilson and Gerrard.
It seems like the summer transfer window is finally starting to hot up for Rangers and it would be brilliant if we can get Veerman in as soon as possible.
It might have to wait for the Kamara situation to be cleared up though.
