Steven Gerrard sends message ahead of England v Italy
Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is nervously waiting as England take on Italy in the final of the Euros 2020 tonight at Wembley.
The Three Lions have conceded just once on their way to the last hurdle between them and the big prize, but they face a different animal in the Azzurri.
Gerrard will be hoping Gareth Southgate’s men can do what he was unable to while he was an England international, and he has taken to his personal Instagram account to send this message.
Rangers fans in Scotland love Gerrard but not a lot of them would be supporting England tonight, and we can only wish the Three Lions all the best against a tough team.
A majority of the Light Blues Scottish players are also likely to be rooting for Italy after Scotland failed to advance to the knockout stages of the European Championship.
Whatever happens tonight, Gerrard and his team are surely going to have some light-hearted banter tomorrow when training resumes for the friendly games against Arsenal, Brighton and Real Madrid.
The Rangers boss spent 14 years playing for the England national team, scoring 21 goals in 114 appearances.
However, he never had the opportunity of reaching a final with his generation despite playing alongside some of the best English players of all time.
Gerrard played at the European Championship in 2000, 2004 and 2012 and the World Cup in 2006, 2010 and 2014.
England have never reached the final of a major tournament since 1966, and they have a chance to make history tonight.
Rangers will also be looking to make history in a couple of weeks by reaching the group stages of the Champions League for the first time in a decade, and the fans can all agree with Gerrard on that one.
