Porto aware of no bids for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos through agent

Porto are aware that Rangers have not received any offers for striker Alfredo Morelos, according to Portuguese news outlet A Bola.

They claim that the Primeira Liga giants are “in contact” with Michael Gorman, agent of the Colombian, and are “aware of the lack of any formal offer” for the striker.

As such, Porto are prepared to play a “game of patience” in their pursuit of the 25-year-old with Rangers refusing to budge from their £12.8million asking price.

Playing games?

The suggestion from A Bola is that Porto are aware that no bids have been placed for Morelos via Gorman, his agent.

It’s probably common practice during transfer talks, but what it does is slightly weaken Rangers’ position over any potential deal.

If Porto had no insider information about whether other clubs had bid for Morelos then Rangers could potentially bluff their way to a higher offer from the Portuguese giants.

That may not be the fairest way to sell a player, but it’s generally been viewed as a marketing ploy in order to get the interested party to stump up the cash they desire.

However, given that Porto are aware there are no bids on the table for Morelos, they can afford to sit back and watch the situation unfold for the time being.

The Gers forward has been on international duty for the past few weeks as Colombia participated in the Copa America tournament in Brazil.

That competition has now come to an end for Colombia but Morelos will surely be afforded at least a few weeks holiday in order to recharge his batteries for the upcoming season, whichever club he is at.

There have been no reports that he is attempting to force a move away from Glasgow this summer, but if does intend to, a signal would be likely to come in the forthcoming weeks as he can now shift his focus away from the Copa America.

Porto are now in a position where they know they are heading the race for Morelos’ signature, and if the Colombian makes an exit demand, then they might feel Rangers’ firm stance on his valuation could be shifted somewhat.

In other Rangers news, Ryan Kent’s current Leeds United stance has been detailed amid their pursuit of the winger.
