No contact between Rangers and Porto yet for Alfredo Morelos, £15million enough for deal
Porto are keen on Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos but are yet to contact the Scottish champions, according to The Athletic.
The Colombian is a wanted man at the Portuguese giants, and the Light Blues are not looking to sell one of their most-prized assets on the cheap.
Porto would need to part with at least £15million to have a chance of tempting the Ibrox side into parting ways with Morelos.
The Athletic journalist Jordan Campbell reports on their website: “Rangers will only sell if their valuations are met, so a bid would need to be close to what Lille were offering for Morelos last summer (around £15 million) for them to contemplate doing business, but there is not a queue of clubs lining up to start a bidding war over him.”
Morelos has grown in leaps and bounds during the last four seasons he has spent at Rangers since arriving as a £1million player, and had the coronavirus pandemic not affected the transfer market, the Light Blues would have had every right to demand at least £20million for him.
Nevertheless, £15million is a fair deal, and we believe the 25-year-old is worth every penny.
Whether Porto would be willing to meet Rangers’ asking price remains to be seen, but the fact that not a lot of suitors are keen on him is not likely to deter the club.
Manager Steven Gerrard would happily hold on to his striker for another season and for as long as possible if need be, and that could work to our advantage.
Should we make it into the group stages of the Champions League, Morelos has the chance to prove himself in the biggest club competition on earth, and given his personality and mentality, he would most likely do that.
A solid European campaign for both club and player certainly increases his valuation next summer, but parting ways with him this summer for the quoted fee would not hurt.
