Rangers knock back Porto bid for Alfredo Morelos

Rangers have knocked back Porto’s bid for Alfredo Morelos, according to Calcio In Pillole’s Ekrem Konur.

The Twitter-verified journalist claimed on Saturday (July 3) that the Portuguese giants tabled a £10.28million (€12million) bid for the Colombian striker, with a 20 per cent sell-on included in any potential deal.

Rangers have now given their response, and Konus has posted on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday (July 6) night: “Glasgow Rangers have rejected Porto’s offer. A lot of teams are showing interest in Alfredo Morelos. Glasgow Rangers will be in no hurry to sell Morelos”

Not enough

Morelos is definitely worth more than the bid Porto have reportedly submitted, and they may have to double to tempt Rangers into parting ways with one of their most-valued players.

Ex-Light Blues centre-back Bruno Alves recently told Daily Record that the 25-year-old is worth at least £20million, and it remains to be seen whether the Portuguese side agree.

After four years at Ibrox, we understand that Morelos would likely be keen to challenge himself elsewhere, and a move to a side where the culture and language are similar to his could be tempting.

Clearly, the Premiership champions believe he is worth top dollar, and suitors have to meet their valuation or come closer to it to have a chance.

Rangers are not in a rush to cash in on him and could be willing to wait till next summer before deciding to sell Morelos.

With a title to defend and a place in the group stages of the Champions League up for grabs, manager Steven Gerrard is surely hesitant about letting such a striker go, and we would not mind having him around for one more season either.

He was a handful for defences in the Europa League last season, and we really could do with his qualities in Europe’s elite competition next term.

In other Rangers news, Bruno Alves has tipped Light Blues for record-breaking summer deal.
