Alex McLeish reacts to Kevin Nisbet-Rangers reports this week

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alex McLeish has questioned whether Hibernian striker Kevin Nisbet is the right man to fill the shirt of Rangers forward Alfredo Morelos should he leave.

The Colombian international has once again been linked with a move to Porto, and reports have suggested Nisbet is wanted at Ibrox.

McLeish admitted that the Scotland international is a “great prospect” but you need more than that to be the main man in Glasgow.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “He seems a great prospect.

“He doesn’t have the same experience as Morelos, who as we know, has an excellent record, and eventually even got a goal against Celtic.

“It looks as though he won’t stop scoring. That is the difficulty when replacing an iconic player, but he is young.

“Let’s not forget, he scored for Scotland which was amazing, he has captured a lot of praise, but is he the man to take over Morelos? It’s a big shirt to fill.”

Smart?

Should Morelos move away, it would likely be Kemar Roofe asked to step up in that central role after his first year at Ibrox.

Nisbet could be a smart addition in Glasgow and has proved he can fire in goals with ease in the Scottish Premiership.

McLeish is clearly arguing for a bigger name, and that a prospect isn’t good enough to replace such as legend such as Morelos.

Steven Gerrard will be working hard behind the scenes with Ross Wilson to have something lined up for if Morelos does leave, and that is what separates the Bears from the rest.

Nisbet could be smart, but surely there are bigger names out there.
