John Lundstram reveals big Champions League ambitions

New Rangers man John Lundstram has been speaking to the club’s official site about his ambitions and why he moved to Glasgow.

The Gers confirmed earlier this week that the former Everton man had joined them on a free transfer after his deal with Sheffield United expired.

Lundstram was also linked with a move to Newcastle United, but he chose Rangers and Steven Gerrard instead of remaining in the Premier League [The Chronicle]. It seems one of the main factors in him moving to Ibrox was the draw of Champions League football.

He said: “That was another massive draw for me, and hopefully, if we can qualify for the group stages, then that will be unbelievable.

“If I can help the lads do that, it will be unbelievable for everyone at the club.”

Lundstram right to pick the Gers?

There is no question that Rangers are on the rise after an incredible 2020/21 season in which they went the whole league campaign unbeaten.

The signing of Lundstram looks to be a clever one as he has Premier League experience and proved in his time with the Blades that he had the knack of scoring a goal or two.

However, it is clear that one of the main reasons why he decided to join the Gers was because of potential group stage Champions League football.

Given that Lundstram has spent most of his career in the EFL, it is no surprise that he wants to play in the Champions League, and this move to Ibrox should give him the chance to do that.

Overall, the 27-year-old sounds buzzing to have signed for Rangers and seems determined to play in UEFA’s premier competition, suggesting he is ambitious and just what the Gers need.

In other Rangers news, an unnamed European club is preparing a ‘big-money bid’ for one Gers star.
