Rangers will sign John Lundstram this week - Alan Nixon

Rangers will complete the signing of free agent John Lundstram this week, according to Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

Writing via his personal Twitter account on Sunday, Nixon reported that “it will be” Lundstram, 27, who arrives at Ibrox as Steven Gerrard’s latest addition to the squad this week.

Lundstram is available on a free transfer after he left Sheffield United at the end of last month when his contract expired.

No-brainer of a signing

We’re sure that Lundstram will be a superb addition at Ibrox with Rangers seemingly set to sign the former Everton and Sheffield United man.

Lundstram is at a good age at 27 while he’s also shown good versatility in his career to play on either wing, in deep or advanced midfield positions or a central role.

The latter is his preferred playing position with Lundstram impressed in the Premier League for Sheffield United as a central midfielder.

Ex-Premier League striker Kevin Phillips has previously said the Gers will be completing a “massive coup” if they sign Lundstram for free [Football Insider] and that seems to be what is going to happen in the coming days.

Rangers have been fairly inactive so far this summer with Fashion Sakala the only player to arrive at Ibrox with the striker joining, also on a free transfer, from Oostende after a pre-contract was agreed.

Lundstram joins to add to a midfield that needs an extra body or two after Bongani Zungu’s loan expired and with Ryan Jack constantly being troubled by injuries.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are close to agreeing a major exit totalling over £14million.
